PRODUCT Details

Meet the Pristella Tetra, also known as the X-ray or Golden Pristella, a graceful, eye-catching addition to your aquarium that combines subtle beauty with peaceful, active behaviour.

This species features a mostly translucent silver body, accented with distinct stripes of yellow, black, and white on its dorsal and anal fins, and often a red or pinkish tail. Though currently around 3 cm, adults can reach up to about 4-5 cm (≈ 1.5-2 in) under good conditions. (Research shows typical full size is around 4-5 cm).

Pristella Tetras are peaceful schooling fish that thrive in groups — at least six together helps them feel secure and really show off their natural behaviour.

They prefer water in the tropical range: 22-26 °C (≈ 72-79 °F), pH from about 6.0-7.5, with soft to moderately hard water. Stable water quality, gentle filtration, and plenty of planting or hiding spots help them do well.

Diet is easy — omnivorous. They accept good tropical flakes or pellets, and enjoy small frozen or live treats now and then (e.g. daphnia, brine shrimp). Feed small amounts a couple of times a day.

With proper care, Pristella Tetras often live 4-5 years, sometimes more.

They are wonderful for planted community setups, especially where you want peaceful mid-water swimmers with colour and grace. Avoid pairing with large aggressive fish, which may stress them or eat them.
