Add a touch of elegance and excellent algae control to your aquarium with the Long Fin Common Bristlenose. This variant of the common bristlenose pleco stands out thanks to its long, flowing fins, while retaining all the hardy, peaceful traits that aquarists love.
At around 3–4 cm now, these plecos have room to grow, though keep in mind their fins will continue to develop. As bottom-dwellers with a strong sucker mouth, they’re natural cleaners—grazing biofilm, algae, driftwood surfaces, and tank décor, helping reduce maintenance.
Water conditions should be stable: warm (≈ 22-26 °C), pH slightly acidic to neutral (around 6.5-7.5), with moderate hardness. Provide hiding spots like driftwood, caves or smooth bark, plus soft substrate so their fins aren’t damaged. Lighting that allows some shade helps reduce stress and highlight their colourful patterns.
Diet should centre on algae wafers, plenty of vegetable matter (such as blanched zucchini or cucumber), and occasional protein treats. Being locally bred, these fish are generally well-adjusted to Australian tap water and more resilient than imported stock. With good care, the Long Fin Common Bristlenose can live 5+ years, contributing both stunning looks and functional algae control to your setup.
