PRODUCT Details

Black Galaxy Fishbone shrimp are one of the most striking Caridina shrimp varieties available, combining rich black colour, scattered โ€œgalaxyโ€ spots and a bold fishbone pattern along the back. Under good lighting in a planted shrimp aquarium, Black Galaxy Fishbone shrimp stand out dramatically, especially against bright green plants, mosses and pale substrates.
As a highโ€‘grade Caridina shrimp, Black Galaxy Fishbone shrimp thrive in soft, slightly acidic water with very stable parameters. In a mature, wellโ€‘cycled shrimp tank, they will graze constantly on biofilm and algae, show natural behaviour and may breed, rewarding you with more galaxy fishbone shrimp over time.
Please note: We do not send shrimps to WA, TAS or NT.

Tank Setup for Black Galaxy Fishbone Shrimp

To create the ideal environment for Black Galaxy Fishbone shrimp:
  • Start with aย mature, fully cycled shrimp aquariumย โ€“ avoid adding them to new or unstable tanks.
  • Use aย gentle filterย such as a sponge filter or a filter with a shrimpโ€‘safe preโ€‘filter on the intake.
  • Add plenty ofย plants, mosses, driftwood and hardscapeย to provide hiding places and surfaces for biofilm to grow.
  • Choose aย light or neutral substrateย if you want the black colour and fishbone pattern of your Black Galaxy Fishbone shrimp to stand out.
A nano or small shrimpโ€‘only tank can work very well for Black Galaxy Fishbone, as long as stocking is sensible and water quality is kept extremely stable.

Feeding Black Galaxy Fishbone Shrimp

Black Galaxy Fishbone shrimp are omnivores and will graze throughout the day on biofilm, algae and detritus. Supplement their natural grazing with:
  • Highโ€‘quality shrimp pellets or granules
  • Shrimpโ€‘specific foods and mineral blocks
  • Occasional vegetable or leafโ€‘based foods (e.g. blanched spinach, shrimp leaf products)
  • Occasional proteinโ€‘rich shrimp treats designed for Caridina shrimp
Feed lightly and remove uneaten food after a few hours to maintain excellent water quality. Clean, stable water is essential for Black Galaxy Fishbone shrimp health and breeding.

Tank Mates and Compatibility

For the best results, Black Galaxy Fishbone shrimp are usually kept:
  • Inย shrimpโ€‘only tanksย or with other carefully chosen Caridina shrimp (avoiding unwanted hybridisation if youโ€™re maintaining specific patterns)
  • With small, shrimpโ€‘safe snails as cleanโ€‘up crew
  • Withoutย predatory or boisterous fish that may stress or eat shrimp
Most keepers prefer a dedicated Black Galaxy Fishbone shrimp tank to protect the line, maximise baby survival and make parameter control easier.
